Another day, another recipe courtesy of McCormick FlavorPrint, the super awesome online meal planning service that gives you personalized recipe recommendations tailored to your individual flavor profiles. As you may recall, my flavor profile showed that, aside from sweets (preferably chocolate), I like my food to be garlicky. Which should come as a surprise to nobody – I’m Chinese…everything we eat has garlic in it! So, naturally, when I looked at the list of recipes FlavorPrint recommended for me and saw a recipe with the word “garlic” in the title, I was 100% on board.
Especially since another word in the recipe title was “steak” – I love steak! We don’t eat it often (gotta try and be healthy, you know?), but every once in a while I get a mean craving for it that can only be satisfied by a trip to our favorite steak joint, where I usually order the Filet Rossini (filet mignon with seared fois gras, truffled mushrooms and sauce “bordelaise”). So good. But, that kind of decadence can get a little heavy on my hips and my wallet, so I’ve been on the hunt for a good recipe that I can use to satisfy my cravings cheaply at home. I think this McCormick recipe might be it!
Flank steak isn’t always the greatest cut of meat, but when cooked and sliced properly, it can be amazingly delicious (and affordable!). The first time I tried this recipe, I didn’t slice my steak across the grain properly (see pictures), and the meat (though delicious in flavor), was a little tough and chewy. The second time I made it, I made sure to slice it right, and the end result was totally different – a big plate of juicy beef strips that were melt-in-my-mouth tender and absolutely packed with flavor. They were tasty on their own, but I could also see them being great in fajitas or sandwiches too. I will definitely be adding this recipe to my lunch/dinner rotation!
